This pub still has all its old features and the terrace overlooking the Thames. It's advertising that it won recent awards for food. I tried one of their sandwiches which comes with chips and salad and would say that yes it was good, but the menu itself has remained fairly typical, and they haven't ventured down the gastro route. This pub, of all the ones I've tried in London, has the most friendly bar staff when it comes to ordering hot chocolate.

Used to be my local as I lived literally next door for 10 years, in the days when it was cutting edge to live in Rotherhithe. The pub itself is (was? haven't been there in years now) great - atmosperic old beams, open fires, cosy cubbies. And a fantastic outside jetty on the river - I'd have enjoyed the view and river air even more if the view from my flat hadn't been even better. Anyway, it was always friendly, and until I became rich enough to eat regularly in gastropubs, I would have rated it the ideal pub (in those days the food was either non-existent or shite). Only downsides were early evenings or weekends, where it was a bit touristed by people looking for Ye Olde English Pub. But mid week, proper drinking time - excellent.

Located opposite St. Mary's Church in Rotherhithe, the Mayflower stands on the site of 'The Shippe' from whence the Mayflower and her crew set sail for Plymouth and then the New World. The current building was built in the 18th Century and is small and attractive within (old wooden interior, large open fireplace) and boasts an excellent terrace overhanging the river. The pub does have a full restaurant upstairs but it's unremarkable. If you're coming here, it will be to soak up the atmosphere and environs. It's located perfectly as the destination of riverside walks, being 2 miles from London Bridge and 1 1/2 miles from Greenwich along Thames Path
