7th Feb 2010 - There is a dearth of pubs at the north end of West End Lane; indeed West Hampstead all the way up to the Finchley Road is lacking drinking holes as previous establishments have been turned into restaurants or knocked down and have become flats. One of the few remaining pubs is the Lion, but alas whereas a well executed boozer could clean up in the area, the Lion is merely limping along. A poorly lit interior belies the fact that the pub has a fair amount of pine about the place, in terms of decor you could describe it as an All Bar One during a power cut. The lager selection is run-of-the-mill and the food isn't expensive but also doesn't really taste like it. It wasn't dirty nor was it threatening but it definitely didn't have any sparkle.
