15th May 2012 - I'm glad to say this pub doesn't appear to have changed one iota. It still owned by LSE, still has a basic menu and still could do with a few more tables. It has an upstairs bar which it was advertising as 'now open' so I am not sure if it is new or has been refurbished recently. I enjoyed a pleasant, reasonably priced pint after visiting the excellent John Soane Museum which is 2 mins walk away. My pint was accompanied by the interlectual musings of some nearby very clever students. Good stuff.

13th Feb 2008 - A grand old Victorian pub, incredibly spacious (read: few tables), huge windows, a couple of exposed iron supports and a lovely wooden floor make this essentially a gastro pub, but lacking that one vital ingredient: food. Maybe catering for the local students (the pub is owned by LSE) the food on offer ranges from crisps, a tuna roll to a bowl of soup, or a mushroom risotto if you're feeling adventurous. Quite how some TV chef hasn't acquired this place, I don't know, but let's pray they never do as it is a very nice pub indeed.
